Organization Description

Chispa Project is 501(c)(3), a not-for-profit organization based in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Our mission is to spark a culture of reading through student access to books in Honduras. To date, we’ve donated over 62,000 to 80+ different schools across the country. Chispa Project works with Honduran educational institutions to spark a passion for learning that will grow and be nurtured within the local communities, with a vision to enhance the quality of life in Honduras.

Role Description

This is a remote, volunteer Board Member role at Chispa Project. The Board Member will be responsible for overseeing the organization's operations, providing strategic direction, and ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards. The Board Member will also be expected to attend online board meetings, participate in discussions, and contribute to decision-making processes.

Qualifications

Chispa Project is seeking board nominees with previous Board Member experience and particularly experience in

  • Finance / Accounting

Responsibilities

  • Understand the organization’s mission, policies, programs, Board of Directors and by-laws.

  • Required to attend at least 5 of the 6 bi-monthly board meetings, monthly board meetings, or special events. All meetings are done via videocall. This role requires approximately 10 volunteer hours per month.

  • Actively participate in one or more fundraising activities.

  • Serve as active advocate and ambassador for the organization to raise visibility, fully engage in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for the organization to advance its mission.

  • Serve on at least one committee or task force.

  • Support the growth of Chispa Project by seeking volunteers, funding, and potential business partners.

  • Prepare for, attend, and conscientiously participate in board meetings and committee meetings.
