Volunteer with Us!

Hello! I’m Sara, founder of Chispa Project, which creates children's libraries and literacy programs in Honduras. This year, we’re excited to offer a special volunteer trip just for families, giving kids the chance to experience cultural immersion and the joy of giving back.

Join us to help set up a new school library from the ground up! Families and kids can paint, label, and organize books, and participate in the library’s grand opening. Children will engage with local Honduran students, play language games, and enjoy Honduran culture and food—all in a trip designed just for them.

We’ll also have fun activities like a visit to the archaeological site and a chocolate tasting. There will be something for everyone.

Lucas, my 4-year-old son, went on two volunteer trips this year, and it made a huge difference in his Spanish! We’ll also have our 2 year-old along for this trip. Don’t miss this unique experience.

STEP 3: Read ahead and get excited!

Our 20-page volunteer manual is the best way to find logistical details for a trip. It includes:

  • Tips from previous volunteers

  • Culture and customs

  • Health and Safety

  • Chispa community guidelines

  • Logistics (money, time zone, travel documents, etc.)

  • A detailed packing list!

***The handbook is meant for our regular volunteer trips, so details like lodging or internet availability will not apply to this Copan trip as we are staying in a small bed and breakfast hotel.

Still want more details?

Check out this video from volunteer Mandy Hicks (2024) who compiled her photos to explain her week-long trip in Tegucigalpa with Chispa Project. Each trip is different, but this is a great, detailed example of the hard work (and fun!) that goes into installing a new library on our regular, 8-day trips.
