Sustaining a Culture of Reading

Our newest report gives you a good idea of how we’re committing to the long-term sustainability of our projects!

In 2024, we launched the Reignite Initiative—a pilot program designed to evaluate the long-term effectiveness of the libraries we had previously installed in Honduran schools. While these libraries had opened doors to literacy, we recognized that many were not reaching their full potential due to challenges such as educator turnover, limited training, and disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Through Reignite, we provided renewed support, tested new resources, and deepened our understanding of what is truly required to foster a lasting culture of reading.

The insights gained from this initiative have led to a significant shift in our organizational model. Beginning in 2025, we committed to offering two full years of support to every partner school, embedding the resources and strategies developed through Reignite into our core program. As a result, we now work with four distinct types of schools: those beginning their two-year journey with us this year; schools from 2024 who will now be receiving a second year of support; Reignite pilot schools who received non-consecutive but extended engagement; and earlier partner schools with whom we’ve lost contact over time. Each group presents unique needs and opportunities, and this report—Sustaining a Culture of Reading—explores our tailored approach to each, reaffirming our commitment to long-term, sustainable literacy development.
