- When I first found out about the Chispa Project, I was just starting as a teacher in a small town outside of San Pedro Sula, Honduras. Now, as my second year of teaching comes to a close, I am extremely excited and grateful to work with the Chispa Project as a volunteer Intern and am asking for your support in sponsoring our work.
I met Chispa Project while they were helping my school put together its biggest literacy event of the year. Right away I was hooked on their mission and vision for making the magic of books accessible to all Hondurans. As a classroom teacher, I have been lucky to witness the "spark" that ignites as a student realizes that they can read. As an outsider living in the community that I work in, I have been lucky to witness the community building power of books and libraries. The literacy event at my school was a hit, and I couldn’t wait to find more opportunities to work with Chispa Project.
After finishing my first year of teaching I had the opportunity to work with Chispa as a short term volunteer while they prepared to inaugurate their newest school library. Their dedication to community partnerships and a sustainable model sets them apart.
Through this internship, I hope to learn more about the inner-workings of not-for-profits, and to grow as an educator in my passion for literacy as the door to opportunity. Please support me in sponsoring children's libraries in Honduras by giving $50 to reach my goal. Thank you so much for your consideration and support! - Emily Smith
